5.0 understands the importance of education on the journey to a sustainable future.

As founder and managing director of the Sunotec Group, Torsten Herfert has been a driver of the worldwide operating solar company since 2012. Even before he handed over the management of the company to his co-partner at the beginning of 2021, he had the idea to focus on a new range of projects that would best use sustainable and ecological methods to benefit communities all over the world, by using the depth of experience he had acquired.

On his numerous business travels to various regions of the world Torsten was able to acutely observe that the success of any society is driven by two important factors - clean energy and decent education.

With these factors in mind, we feel it is time to share some of our prosperity with those less fortunate than ourselves, and work towards diminishing inequality - by launching Innovations That Matter.

5.0 Green Energy

SUSTAINABLE IMPACTS

With the advantage of almost 10 years of experience in successfully setting up photovoltaic systems worldwide, we were inspired to expand the effective system of solar energy, and focus further on renewable energy and sustainability in a broader sense. By leveraging our expertise and large network of specialists in the field of renewable energies, 5.0 takes on meaningful projects in upcoming economies that have a real impact in reducing inequality.

Philosophy

Electricity is the engine of today’s economy. It drives growth and development, and can improve living conditions. However, we need to change the way we generate electricity. In order to secure the future of both the environment and its people, renewable energy must be the source of electricity going forward. This source provides the foundation for a sustainable economy. By making renewable energy more easily accessible, 5.0 Renewables aims to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable and equitable world.

Company

5.0 Green Energy company emerged from the Sunotec GmbH Germany in 2021. The emphasis is on developing projects that support the generation of electricity through renewable energies.
The main focus currently lies in innovative energy projects in Germany and Africa that create a positive ecological and social footprint.
With so many years of experience, and a track record encompassing over 2 GW of system output in well over 200 different photovoltaic projects, 5.0 Green Energy has more than sufficient experience and expertise to make these exciting future projects reach fruition.

Philosophy

Education is a basic human right and it plays an integral role in sustainable development. It improves the quality of people’s lives and brings meaningful social benefits, both for the individual and society as a whole. Education fosters creativity, and encourages the notion of entrepreneurship learning, which in turn might lead to future mutually beneficial global partnerships. It is therefore our mission to inspire and support the sharing of knowledge and contribute meaningfully to a more equitable world in which future generations can thrive.

Project

In line with our education philosophy, in 2021 the Five Point Zero Group acquired a 20 percent stake in the Berlin based start-up ‘Deutsche Akademie für digitale Bildung GmbH’ (DADB). The program, Bringing German expertise to upcoming markets, provides a powerful platform for outstanding German professors and various experts from diverse industries to share their knowledge on relevant topics. The students will then have access to the stakeholders in emerging economies in Africa and Asia, and be able to engage with them, allowing for incomparable experiential learning.

In accordance with our principles of “Education today, and a brighter future tomorrow”, this integrated teaching method will effectively prepare future generations for the challenges they will encounter in a rapidly changing world.

Ilmenau photovoltaic system, Thuringia / Germany

In December 2020, the last of the 1950 solar modules for our 750 kWp roof system were installed in Ilmenau, Thuringia. The connection to the grid is scheduled for May 2021. A second construction phase with approx. 1,000 kWp is planned for the second half of 2021.

Berbera hybrid power plant, Somalia

Together with our partner DHybrid from Munich, we at 5.0 Green Energy (former Sunotec GmbH) have brought to fruition this 1 MWp open space project at the port of Berbera in Somaliland in Spring 2021. We worked together with our Kenyan colleagues from the Sunotec Group, and installed this project both mechanically and electrically. With the combination of the DHybrid battery container and a modern diesel power plant, a reliable alternative power supply was created for the residents of Berbera. Diesel consumption was considerably reduced, resulting in substantial power supply cost savings.
